Autogear Tracker is an app you download and log into — after that, you can more or less forget about it. It logs trips automatically in the background; you don't need to open it or start and stop trips yourself. But there's one thing you should avoid on iPhone: don't force-quit the app. That also stops trip logging.
To save battery, the app rests when nothing is moving, and wakes up automatically again when the vehicle or phone starts moving. Short pauses are therefore completely normal — not a fault.
If it still isn't logging, it's usually one of two things: that the settings aren't correct, or that the app has been force-quit.
Check that the settings are correct
For Basic to log automatically, the app's settings need to be in place:
These three must be in place — otherwise automatic logging won't start:
- Bluetooth turned on — so the app can find the tag
- Location set to "Always" (not "Only while using the app")
- Motion & fitness allowed
These make logging more stable, but aren't strictly required:
- Notifications allowed — so you can see the app scanning
- Let the app run in the background / turn off battery saver for the app
How to get to the settings:
- Easiest — in the app: open the Account screen in Autogear Tracker. It shows the status of each permission, and the app sends you straight to the right setting if something is missing.
- iPhone: or go to Settings, scroll down to Autogear Tracker, and set each permission. For location: choose Location → "Always".
- Android: or go to Settings → Apps → Autogear Tracker → Permissions. For location: choose "Allow all the time". Battery saver is under Apps → Autogear Tracker → Battery.
When you force-quit the app
When you swipe the app up in the app switcher view, this happens:
- The app is fully closed
- Automatic logging stops immediately
- It won't start again on its own until you open the app again
When you just close the app (go to the home screen)
When you press home or switch to another app, this happens:
- The app is not closed — it keeps working in the background
- It logs trips as normal
- It uses little battery because it rests when you're stationary and wakes up again when you drive
