Maskinregisteret: Questions and answers

Updated Stefan Jacobsen

What is Maskinregisteret?

Maskinregisteret is the Norwegian register for construction machines — like the vehicle register, but for excavators, wheel loaders, cranes and trucks. It's run by Stiftelsen Sentralregisteret on behalf of EBA, MEF and MGF. The supplier registers the machine, and each machine gets a plate with a QR code.

What does the integration cost?

NOK 2,990 setup fee on the first invoice and NOK 19 per linked machine per month, excl. VAT. Billed annually. Machines you link later are prorated to the common renewal date. The price comes in addition to any GPS license on the same machine. Sentralregisteret doesn't charge for the connection itself.

Are the licenses cancelled when I disconnect?

No. Licenses are not cancelled automatically — neither when you unlink one machine nor when you disconnect the whole integration. A license from a machine you've unlinked returns to the license pool and is reused the next time you link a machine. To end licenses, contact Autogear support.

"Maskinregisteret did not accept the key"

  • Check that you've pasted in both the API key and the API secret, with no spaces before or after.
  • Check that ECIT Autogear AS (org. no. 987 898 291) is specified as the service provider with Sentralregisteret.
  • Autogear also checks the organisation number. The key must belong to the same company as the Autogear account.
  • If you're still unsure, contact Sentralregisteret at it@sentralregisteret.no to confirm that the key is active.

If you get "Maskinregisteret rejected the API key" on an integration that has worked before, the key has been revoked or has expired. Enter a new key on the integration page. The machines and history stay in place in the meantime.

"Maskinregisteret is under maintenance between 00:00 and 06:00"

Maskinregisteret doesn't accept requests at night. Try again after 06:00. The automatic update runs at 06:00 every morning.

A machine is missing from the import

The import only shows machines that are registered in Maskinregisteret and that your company has access to there. If a machine is missing:

  • Check with the supplier or Sentralregisteret that the machine is registered, and that your company is listed as owner, user or lessor.
  • If you get "No machine found with this registration number" when linking one machine, check that you entered the registration number from Maskinregisteret (e.g. AB1234), not the licence plate from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA).
  • Machines that aren't in the register you add to Inventory as usual.

Only items of type Machine in Inventory can be linked to Maskinregisteret. The Machine Register tab is only shown on machines.

The machine shows "Out of date"

Autogear can't fetch new data for the machine. Common causes:

  • "The machine no longer exists in Maskinregisteret" — the machine has been removed from the register, or your company no longer has access to it. The data is shown as of the last sync.
  • "The Maskinregisteret license for this machine is not active" — the data is shown as it was, but isn't updated. Contact Autogear support.
  • The key has been rejected or the integration is disconnected — enter a valid key on the integration page.

No data is deleted because the updates stop.

The data on the machine isn't up to date

The data is fetched automatically every morning at 06:00. Click Refresh now on the machine to fetch fresh data right away, or Sync now on the integration page for all machines. If the data is still wrong, it's the register that needs correcting — Autogear shows what's in Maskinregisteret.

Can I change the register data in Autogear?

No. The fields from Maskinregisteret are marked "Source: Maskinregisteret", can't be edited in Autogear and aren't sent back to the register. You make changes with Sentralregisteret or the supplier. You can edit your own fields in Inventory as before, and they're never overwritten by the register.

Documents from the register can be deleted from the document archive, but are fetched again at the next sync.

I'm not getting expert inspection reminders

  • Check that reminders are turned on for the machine, on the Machine Register tab. Reminders are off until you turn them on.
  • Check that the notification Expert inspection for machines (Maskinregisteret) is active under Notifications, and that you're a recipient — directly, or through a role or group.
  • Check that your user has an email address.

See Expert inspection reminders.

Does the machine need GPS from Autogear?

No. The integration works for all machines in Inventory. With GPS as an add-on service (Asset, Engine or Tag), you also see the machine on the map, get actual operating hours with Engine, and can link the machine automatically to a project via geofence.

Do we need to be an Autogear customer already?

No. If you have an Autogear account with a license, you activate the integration yourself under Settings › Integrations. If you're not a customer, contact us, and we'll set up your account with Maskinregisteret activated from the start.
