Trips: Commuting trips

Updated Stefan Jacobsen

Commuting trips are trips between home and a permanent workplace or a permanent meeting place. This is not the same as business driving.

Commuting trips count as private trips in the logbook. It can still be useful to mark them, so you get an overview of the kilometres for the travel deduction in your tax return.

When do I use Commuting trip?

  • Driving between home and a permanent workplace
  • Driving between home and a permanent meeting place
  • Trips you want included in the basis for the travel deduction
  • Trips that should not be recorded as business driving or mileage allowance

Automatic: add your home and workplace

Autogear can mark commuting trips automatically. To do this, add your home address and regular workplace on My Profile.

  1. Click your initials in the top right and select My Profile.
  2. Go to Home and workplace.
  3. Search for and select your Home address and Regular workplace from the list.
  4. Make sure the Home ↔ work = commute switch is on.

Trips between the two places, in both directions, are then set as Private with the Commuting trip add-on. The change applies to new trips. Trips that have already been processed keep the category they were given.

If a trip is marked incorrectly, remove the Commuting trip add-on from the trip.

How to mark a trip as a commuting trip manually

  1. Go to Trips.
  2. Find the trip between home and your permanent workplace or meeting place.
  3. Set the trip as Private.
  4. Click Add-ons.
  5. Select Commuting trip.
  6. Save or confirm the trip.

The trip is still private, but now has the Commuting trip add-on.

Good to know

  • Commuting trips are recorded as private, not as work.
  • A commuting trip does not give grounds for mileage allowance.
  • The kilometres can be used as documentation for the travel deduction. The employee is personally responsible for claiming the correct deduction in the tax return.
