What makes up the amount on a trip?

Updated Stefan Jacobsen

Every trip in the triplog gets an amount in kroner. The amount is the mileage allowance the trip gives, and it is what is summed up in Amount at the top of Trips and in the payroll report. Here we explain what the amount is made up of, and why it is sometimes 0 kr.

How the amount is calculated

Amount = kilometres × rate + add-ons + tolls and ferries + other costs

Part What it is
Kilometres × rate The length of the trip multiplied by the rate per kilometre. The rate comes from the rate template on the vehicle.
Add-ons For example a passenger or a trailer, 1 kr per km. Add-ons with a fixed price are added once per trip. See Add-ons on trips: passenger, trailer and equipment.
Tolls and ferries Passages Autogear has registered on the trip. Only included if Use tollstation is switched on for the vehicle. See Toll stations.
Other costs Costs that have been added to the trip, for example parking.
See the calculation for a single trip: Click the amount on the trip in the list under Trips. You then see the rate, kilometres, add-ons and tolls separately.

The rate comes from the rate template

Every vehicle has a rate template. The rate template decides which rate the trip gets, both when the trip is a work trip and when it is private. The rate used is the one that applies on the date the trip started.

The most common rate templates for work driving in your own car in 2026:

Rate template Rate per km How the amount is treated
Rapportere kjøregodtgjørelse (the Norwegian government rate) 5.30 kr 3.50 kr is tax-free, 1.80 kr is taxable
Rapportere kjøregodtgjørelse Skattfri (tax-free rate) 3.50 kr The whole amount is tax-free

The Norwegian government rate gives the highest payout, but the part above 3.50 kr per km is taxable for the employee. The tax-free rate gives a lower payout, but nothing is taxed. Which rate you use is a choice the employer makes. In the payroll report, the two parts are shown as Taxfree Sum and Taxable Sum.

See Rates – how to choose and change the rate template for a vehicle and Rates: Choose, change and create custom rates.

If you change the rate template, it applies to new trips. Trips that are already registered keep the amount they got. If you change the category of an existing trip, for example from Private to Work, the trip gets the rate from the rate template the vehicle has now.

Why does the trip show 0 kr?

Cause Explanation
The trip is private Private trips do not give mileage allowance. The rate for private driving is 0 kr per km. This also applies to commutes between home and a regular workplace, see Commutes.
The vehicle is a company car Company cars use a rate template for documenting the driving. The employee does not get mileage allowance for driving a company car, so the rate is 0 kr.

Why is the amount different from what I expected?

  • Tolls are missing: Check that Use tollstation is switched on for the vehicle under Setup › Triplog › Toll station.
  • Wrong rate: Check which rate template the vehicle has under Setup › Triplog › Rates. A rule can also set a different rate on the trip. See Rules: Overview.
  • Add-ons are missing or wrong: Check the add-ons on the trip before you confirm it.
  • Wrong length: See Mileage: Troubleshooting discrepancies.
